A short and quirky poem, “Through Rose-Coloured Goggles,” was inspired by an enchanting ride with ten-year-old Meara on the Marmot Basin chairlift in Jasper, Alberta in January of this year. Back at the chalet, over a cup of hot chocolate, I spun the words that had swirled around us at the mountaintop into the first draft of a poem. I think of myself primarily as a CNF writer, but this piece of writing is a bit of a departure since it emerged as a poem, and the journey that inspired it was shorter than most!
Later this spring, I submitted the poem to a juried anthology called Writing the Land, a collection aimed at exploring “the magnificent and diverse landscape of our province, and how we interact with it.” When I learned in August that my poem was accepted for publication, I was thrilled – not only because I think of poetry as an exalted genre, but also because the anthology will contain the work of very talented and well-known poets.
All of the poetry accepted for the anthology will appear on the website www.blueskiespoetry.ca in September 2007. My poem will appear on September 10th, so please visit the site that day (and every day!)  Click the tab Writing the Land to see the poetry collection. You’ll find the opportunity to provide commentary on each poem you read. Please don’t be shy – the website editor and poets crave your response!
